Beside Every Woman..

I've always heard "Behind every great man is an even greater woman." Here lately I've been thinking about all the great women who stand beside me and call me friend. I've been thinking... "Beside every great woman is another great woman, and another, and another. We choose, I choose, to create and be a part of a community of women who are for each other encouraging, inspiring, and uplifting. In a world that is constantly trying to divide, I want to find strength in unity. That's part of my "why" in "what the Elle is she up to?". Why am I blogging and sharing pieces of my life through a relatively unfiltered lense? Because I want to be a part of this community of everyday women who are changing the world around them. I want to spend my time spreading positive energy and love instead of hate and division.

Since moving to New York I've gained a deeper understanding of who I am and what I look for in a friendship and community. It is so important to find the people who celebrate in the joy and commiserate in the sorrow. It is so easy to dwell on the negative. Our world is comprised of it but the true gems are the ones who can push you, encourage you, and inspire you. Not because they have something to gain but because your friendship is a treasure to them. They don't find happiness or self satisfaction when you're doing poorly but are instead understanding, and often pop by with a bottle of wine. (:

I am incredibly grateful for the community of women who I am lucky enough to call my people. I am grateful for their hearts and energy and the higher power that drew us together. I am grateful for a group of women who are for each other and encourage one another in struggle and in joy. I am thankful that beside this woman is another great woman and another and another.

So here's to my amazing community of women who keep me going, you know who you are... (: We are strong and beautiful and the world better look out because we're coming for it.

Let's be a group of women for each other, beside each other.

I think the best role models for women are people who are fruitfully and confidently themselves, who bring light into the world
