Phew, friends, it’s been a busy few weeks…and if I’m honest, a busy few months. I feel like I’ve been on a roller coaster ride and hanging on tight to try to keep up. I’ve gone to post several times and thought “no I’m not going to post just to post.”
Something I’ve been honing in on over the last year or so has been investing in the quality of my life. This includes everything from clothing to mental health, to the food I eat even down to making flossing my teeth a daily habit (truly, floss your teeth). I’ve invested in a lot of stuff throughout my life, gaining too much unnecessary baggage along the way. For example, saying things just to say them to be apart of the conversation and collecting shoes that are uncomfortable but just keeping them in the closet.
Something that has shifted in my thinking has been my desire to invest in the quality of who I am as a human and what I have to share with others. I think the blog has inspired me to take the time with what I have to share instead of posting constantly. So, in the craziness of life I decided to just wait instead of filling up my feed with something that was superficial or thrown together.
As I’m stepping back into my roots with theater, I’m giving myself the time to rest and reflect. I’ve taken some wonderful classes, been on a few auditions, and tried some new techniques in the industry- I took a voice over class and it was AWESOME! I’ve also been networking my little ass off and I’ve met some really amazing people. Most importantly, I’ve had the chance to support some of my wildly talented friends.
In my effort to invest in the quality things life has to offer, I’ve realized what I want for myself in my career and in my words, with everyone I come in contact with.
I’ve made a list of things I am investing in and I hope it inspires you to make a list of where to place priority. These are in no particular order and the priority of them changes regularly but it’s all about balance.
1 | Clothing and Shoes. I’m starting off light here but instead of just buying the cheapest stuff on the internet I’m doing my best to save for quality pieces and investing in alterations to make me feel comfortable and chic as I take on the world. Truly, I recommend doing this (even on an artist budget) because it can make all the difference in the world as far as mentality of being ready to own the day. I’m not suggesting you to buy a 400.00 pair of shoes, and no judgement if you do (to each their own), but buy shoes that will last that you actually like more than a week. But I truly believe when you look good, you feel good. I preform my best when I have the time to prep myself for the day and feel I’m putting my best foot forward.
2 | Eating less crap. I’ve spent the last year or so researching and investing in the things I eat. Every body is different and it’s important to know what things service your body. Even though my grocery shopping has gotten a little more expensive I’ve seen a noticeable difference by switching my lifestyle to a more farm to table diet, investing in the quality of what I’m ingesting. I’ve attached an amazing list of foods and what they do for your body. Perhaps I will do a blog about my eating habits. (:
3 | Speaking less crap. This is so so big for me. I’ve realized a lot lately how much words mean to me and how important it is to speak clearly, effectively and honestly especially as a blogger. My desire for my brand is to share pieces of my life that aren’t always attractive but I think are important to be told so others know they’re not alone. I don’t want to just say something to have something to say, my desire is for my words to be meaningful and constant. My hope is that people feel comfortable to come to me for advice or just to vent because they know my words are thoughtful yet truthful and consistent.
4 | Intentional, quality time in my relationships. I’ve been spending a lot more time with myself lately and investing in her quality. I’m texting less during the day and spending intentional time with friends on a quality basis not as much a quantity basis and I’m grateful for that shift. I see a depth in my friendships and I’m able to better give myself in conversation instead of feeling stretched.
5 | The quality of my sleep over the quantity. I try to start winding down around 10pm (usually in bed by this time) and lights out by 11. I wake up at 6:30am every day to get my little cuties that I nanny to school and I’m finished by 8:30 - giving me amazing morning time to get things done. Investing in that time in the morning has been one of the greatest shifts in my life thus far. Don’t get me wrong, I am absolutely a night owl but I love my mornings now. I am so productive in the AM and love the feeling of “earning my rest.”
6 | The quality of my posts over the quantity. I want every post to be intentional and have meaning for myself and my readers. I put a lot of time into what I post. It’s become very apparent in my life that I need to know the why behind what I’m doing and I have to invest in that quality over just living in a space that I’m unsure why I’m there.
